Better, faster, easier: meet the enhanced Volvo L30 and L35 wheel loaders

Increased functionality and an exceptional operator experience are just some of the improvements made for the new generation L30 and L35 compact wheel loaders from Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE).

Proven for operation across urban construction, municipalities, landscaping, agriculture and waste and recycling, these 5.7-6.4-tonne machines are now coming to the market with more intuitive navigation and improved ease-of-use.

Thanks to these updates, customers requiring a wheel loader with 1.0-1.2m³ bucket capacity (or 2.4-2.6-tonne fork payload) can deliver fast work cycles with less fatigue. They can also continue to take advantage of the loaders’ unrivalled maneuverability, tractive force and boom/bucket performance.

Improved operation

Despite already boasting industry-leading visibility, these compact wheel loaders are now gaining an even greater range of sight to the front and sides thanks to a slimmer dashboard. Operators will also benefit from more intuitive navigation with a larger 5” display navigated via jog wheel, as well as a more ergonomic multi-function joystick – already found on the L20 Electric and L25 Electric models.

Unique to this size class comes a set of new options designed to ease machine operation. This includes an advanced boom kick-out and bucket leveler with boundary limits consisting of:

  • an automatic lift and tilt, where the boom and attachment move automatically into pre-programmed positions with the press of the activation button on the joystick
  • a lift and tilt limiter to prevent the boom and attachment from going above and beyond a pre-set elevation/depth and to avoid hitting obstacles.

Not only does this help experienced operators ensure precise repetitive movement with less fatigue, but it also helps less experienced operators carry out speedier loading cycles.

A new lift and tilt speed limiter option is intended to help when working with heavy loads/attachments as it ensures a precise and sensitive control by reducing the speed of movements. Individual settings are enabled for boom up, boom down, tilt in and tilt out.

Heavier loads also become light work thanks to the optimized kinematics. With increased bucket bulk density, the H-generation L30 and L35 with Z-linkage can carry up to 200 kg more per m³ compared to the L30G and L35G.

While operators will continue to appreciate the comfort provided by the industry-leading cab – thanks to its adjustable steering column, seat and right armrest – they will also notice a clear improvement in the ease of access thanks to the wheel chocks now being repositioned away from the steps.

Faster movements

A unique electro-hydraulic main control valve enhances the flow sharing among the hydraulic functions. The boom and hydraulic attachment can be operated simultaneously with no compromise to the movement of operation.

Meanwhile, familiar to fans of the previous generation compact wheel loaders, is the simultaneous steering and lifting at speed functionality, thanks to independent hydraulic pumps.

Still ahead of the game

On top of the many updates, the loaders continue to offer the same outstanding performance, speed and versatility. This is largely thanks to the exceptional rim pull and breakout/lifting forces that customers might expect from larger size machines. The high traction comes from the combination of articulating oscillating joint and 100% differential locks on both axles, while the high breakout force is a result of the powerful linkage.

Best-in-class ground clearance over high obstacles is still ensured via the exclusive portal axles design. And the attachment bracket continues to enable fast shifts between a range of regular and hydraulic attachments.

As well as ensuring a top performance, the machines continue to provide outstanding uptime. Two further advantages from the last series are the ground-level access to service points – including fuel, oil, air and hydraulic filters, battery, radiator, oil dipstick and hydraulic oil level gauges – and the long service intervals. This means more time spent at work and less time spent on maintenance.

By adding machine connectivity to these updated wheel loaders, customers can also enable a range of services and digital solutions to help them reduce unplanned downtime and boost their profitability. In all, the H-generation L30 and L35 set the standard for compact wheel loaders in this size class, delivering outstanding performance with a low total cost of ownership.
