For us at Mackla, it’s about both meeting future environmental requirements and being proactive in the industry’s transition. We’re fortunate to work with a client, EcoDataCenter, that shares our vision of a greener future. They gave us the opportunity to become the first company in the world to put a L90 Electric into operation.
Our day-to-day work on the project is complex, with large flows of materials arriving by external truck transport and rail deliveries on site. The L90 Electric supports operations by receiving deliveries, managing logistics, and bridging external transport with on-site handling, streamlining workflows and advancing our transition toward fossil-free solutions. Together with our electric FM truck from Volvo Trucks, it demonstrates that the transition is possible even in demanding environments. For us, it’s about leading the way. A sustainable logistics chain begins with our everyday choices.
Our L90 Electric is primarily used for goods handling and construction logistics (approximately 90%), but it has also proven its versatility in snow removal, anti-slip/winter road treatment operations, and sand sweeping/collection. Together with our other wheel loaders and forklifts, it works as the hub of our on-site material handling operations.
Our operators are very satisfied. The quiet cab environment reduces fatigue during long shifts, and the transmission feels much smoother than that of a comparable diesel machine. It’s in a completely new, wonderful league of its own. One technical detail that operators particularly appreciate is having full hydraulic flow immediately available without needing to rev up the engine.
We rely on a combination of strategic charging solutions. Between shifts, Volvo’s overnight charger is used. On demanding days, especially in winter, we use a fast charger during breaks to ensure the battery lasts throughout the entire workday, even in cold conditions.
With electric solutions as part of its philosophy, Mackla continues to advance sustainable construction logistics. The L90 Electric shows how electrification is already creating value in daily operations.
