High performance and low environmental impact in practice

Stena Recycling is a leading provider of recycling and sustainable circular solutions. At the company’s facilities in Hallstahammar, Volvo CE’s L90 Electric has been put to the test. Production Manager Tobias Isik sees a versatile machine that delivers in demanding terrain.

What made you interested in the L90 Electric?

In line with our operations, we have clear internal sustainability goals. When Volvo CE wanted to start testing how the L90 Electric performed in industrial environments, we were one of the first companies to come on board.

You had the L90 Electric for seven months. How well did it fit into your operations?

We handle a large volume of scrap metal coming in and going out. Our L90 Electric was primarily used for heavy lifting, loading, and moving materials. We operate in varied terrain where conditions can be muddy, slippery, and uneven. The machine was exposed to the toughest possible environment and handled the job exceptionally well.

What was the operating experience like?

The operator who used it the most says the L90 Electric is a fantastic machine. It’s agile, the loading response is spot on, and it can maneuver in tight spaces. The low noise level improves the working environment.

How did you handle charging the machine?

Our L90 Electric was in constant operation for us, and we always charged it overnight using the integrated charger. During the winter, we also used it for supplementary charging during morning and lunch breaks. Charging was never really an issue. On the few occasions when something happened, Volvo CE was quick to send service technicians.

Will you continue using the L90 Electric?

We would gladly continue using it in our operations and would also be interested in an L120 Electric for heavier lifting. We’ve worked closely with Volvo CE for a long time, so their machines are always top of mind. Operators may be unfamiliar with electric machines at first, but many now prefer them. Overall, we experienced the L90 Electric as efficient, environmentally friendly, and safe. We are very satisfied with the test period.

Initiatives such as testing the L90 Electric are an important part of Stena Recycling’s investment in sustainable solutions. The long-term ambition is a fully electric machine fleet, a goal they have already made significant progress toward.
