Volvo launches EC200D excavator in India with class-leading fuel economy and reliability

The busiest sector of the Indian earthmoving machinery market has an important new addition with the launch of the EC200D excavator from Volvo Construction Equipment. The new machine fits into the hugely popular 20-ton segment and has been engineered specifically for general construction work.

Volvo Construction Equipment is strengthening its earthmoving product line in the continually-growing 20 ton category with the introduction of the EC200D excavator.

The EC200D has all the hallmarks of Volvo quality and productivity, but with category leading fuel economy. Its advanced design makes it ideally-suited to general construction duties.

The EC200D is a reliable performer that offers excellent fuel economy in general construction applications such as road construction, building, landscaping and utility work. It is configured with a 5.7 m boom, 2.9 m arm and 0.8 m3 bucket, while maximum breakout force is 116 kN.

A perfect balance of power and fuel economy comes from the machine’s Tier 3 Volvo D5E engine, which delivers 123 kW of power at 2,000 rpm. Operators will feel right at home in the cab too, as it features the ergonomic design, comfort and visibility that are synonymous with Volvo machines.

Exciting new addition

Dimitrov Krishnan, Vice President and Head of Volvo CE India, said the introduction of the EC200D represents an exciting new addition for the Indian construction equipment industry.

“Many construction companies aspire to owning a Volvo and with this new EC200D we’re making it easier than ever for Indian customers to add one to their fleet,” he said. “Our expectations are high for this new machine given the strong growth demand expected in this equipment category.”

Road building has been one of the busiest sectors in the Indian construction industry over the past two years, and the EC200D is a perfect choice for earthmoving in this application. It also works well alongside other recent road building launches from Volvo CE, such as the DD90 compactor and the P5320 ABG paver.

The EC200D’s combination of high fuel economy with a design that is perfectly matched to the needs of general construction mean Volvo CE expects the new machine to become a popular choice.

“We expect the EC200D will appeal to large construction companies, as well as owner-operators and contractors,” said Dimitrov Krishnan. “We’re also expecting strong interest from rental companies. The specifications and design of the EC200D make it a perfect option for the rental industry.”

The new unit sits alongside the proven EC210D in the company’s range allowing customers to select the right 20-ton Volvo excavator for them. The EC210D offers a higher-spec than the EC200D, making it suitable for heavy duty applications such as mining or quarry work, as well as general construction duties

A.M. Muralidharan, VP Sales Support and Dealer Development, Volvo CE Region APAC, said the new EC200D will have strong appeal both within India and the wider Asian market.

“We see so much potential across Asia for a 20-ton Volvo excavator which is tailored to general construction work,” he said. “What’s clear is that the 20-ton sector is also split into two camps. Those who want a high-performance machine that is tough enough for applications like mining and quarrying; and those who want an everyday machine that can perform general construction duties. With the launch of the EC200D we are strengthening our product line to meet all our customers’ needs in the 20-ton category. The new EC200D delivers the on-site performance expected of a Volvo together with class-leading fuel economy.”

Deliveries of the EC200D will begin in early 2018 and will be backed by Volvo CE’s extensive service and maintenance support network.
