Japan's first two new generation Volvo A45 articulated haulers at the Kano Kousan aggregates production facility in Yamaguchi Prefecture.
Having taken Japan's first deliveries of the new generation A45 articulated haulers from Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE), quarry operator Kano Kousan Co., Ltd is enjoying the benefits of two of these updated models at its site in Shunan City, Yamaguchi Prefecture. The heavy-duty units are bringing added efficiency to the crushed stone production, effortlessly managing the continuous transport of raw stone, overburden, and aggregates across the rugged terrain of the quarry.
"Kano Kousan needs to keep its operations running efficiently," said Shuji Kinoshita, Chairman at Daiichi Toyo. "The new generation Volvo A45 haulers give the company the confidence and capacity it needs for tough terrain, and the machines are already proving themselves as key workhorses on site."
Ensuring work continues seamlessly is local Volvo CE dealer Daiichi Toyo Co., Ltd., based in Okayama City. Daiichi Toyo delivered the machines to Kano Kousan, helping the company select the right models for its project. The company is also contributing to high uptime and performance on site through its rapid expert service support using only genuine Volvo parts.

Key updates versus the previous generation
The payload on the new generation Volvo A45 articulated haulers has been increased from 41 to 42 tonnes and Haul Assist with On-board Weighing is included as standard to help optimise loading in-real time.
"With the new A45 haulers Kano Kousan saw a substantial increase in productivity. The company was able to move more material in fewer trips, while the On-board Weighing is a valuable tool for preventing under- or overloading and carry-back," Shuji Kinoshita added. "The customer also reported consuming less fuel, and their operators commented on how easy and comfortable the machines are to operate even on the roughest terrain."
The new generation A45 units feature a completely new transmission system, including a class-leading Volvo D16J engine, to deliver enhanced fuel efficiency, productivity, and reliability across the working cycle. The drivetrain upgrade is complemented by reinforced axles, making the machines stronger and more durable for the toughest hauling applications. Meanwhile, improved visibility and an intuitive new operator interface support operator confidence and efficiency on site.
Engineered to conquer the toughest terrain
Throughout the generations, Volvo articulated haulers have earned a reputation for hauling large payloads over harsh, uneven rock and deep mud efficiently and productively. The Volvo A45 is purpose-built for these extreme environments, thanks to its dynamic 6x6 drive system equipped with Automatic Traction Control that instinctively adapts to shifting ground conditions in real time. High-flotation, extra-wide tyres keep the heavy hauler gliding smoothly over soft surfaces without losing momentum or sinking. For descending steep quarry slopes, Volvo's Downhill Speed Control is included as standard in the design, giving the operator complete, effortless control, and ensuring ultra-safe and steady downhill runs even under heavy loads.
Unmatched capacity meets peak operator comfort
The modern cab on the Volvo A45 shields operators from noise and vibration, so that they can stay fresh and focused throughout long shifts. To elevate jobsite confidence, an integrated camera system helps avoid critical blind spots, supporting drivers' awareness of workers or other machinery inside the working area.
A passion for quality, precision and safety
Even in a high-dust, heavy-mud quarry environment, the crew at Kano Kousan takes tremendous pride in their fleet. Blending decades of hands-on expertise with cutting-edge technology, operators maintain a relentless daily safety routine. Pre- and post-shift checks are standard, and safety camera lenses and high-intensity work lights are routinely wiped crystal clear to guarantee flawless vision in all conditions.
"For Kano Kousan, the priority is to keep production moving safely and reliably every day," Shuji Kinoshita concluded. "With the new generation Volvo A45 haulers and the support of Daiichi Toyo, the company is well-equipped to keep improving its quarry operations."
