Volvo Construction Equipment unveils new generation wheel loaders for enhanced productivity

Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) builds on its landmark year of product renewals by launching its new generation wheel loaders – designed for optimal productivity, operator comfort and safety.
  • Volvo CE is introducing the first wave of a new generation of wheel loaders, starting with five models ranging in size from the L150 to the L260.
  • Designed for optimal productivity, operator comfort and safety, these new wheel loaders benefit from innovative new technologies.
  • Customers will benefit from these new machines when they are introduced across select markets globally during 2025.

For 70 years, Volvo CE has been at the forefront of wheel loader technology. These innovative new generation wheel loaders are engineered to enhance productivity and efficiency across a wide array of applications, including rehandling, material handling, quarrying, waste and recycling, and earthmoving.

The five revamped models are the L150, L180, L200 High Lift, L220 and L260. Aside from a fresh design, these hard-working and truly versatile machines now have even faster cycle times, exceptional performance, and unmatched operator comfort. They are packed with intelligent solutions to help customers maximize productivity and profitability.

Erich Kribs, Product Manager at Volvo CE, said: “Our new generation wheel loaders represent a significant leap forward in technology and design. With these models, we’re not just enhancing productivity and comfort but also setting new standards for innovation and efficiency in the industry. This latest launch is part of our most ambitious year yet, as we continue to introduce a range of groundbreaking products designed to meet the evolving needs of our customers.”

Optimal productivity and fuel efficiency

The introduction of new generation load sensing hydraulics enables faster cycle times by ensuring attachment responsiveness and improving boom lift and lowering speeds. An automatic bucket levelling function further boosts productivity by returning the bucket to a level position from both dump and curl positions, while the intelligent Auto Bucket Fill feature delivers optimal, consistent bucket filling every time. Thanks to updated Smart Control, the fuel-efficient engine mode activates by default whenever the machine is turned on, reducing fuel consumption without compromising productivity. What is more, the wheel loaders are also compatible with HVO (Hydro-treated Vegetable Oils) fuel.

With an entirely Volvo powertrain, quality runs through the DNA of the wheel loaders, in delivering optimal stability and efficiency by synchronizing the transmission with the engine and axles. The converter delivers increased torque output for better performance at low speeds, while reduced gear step intervals provide even faster acceleration and smoother operation. Pioneering technologies such as Volvo’s OptiShift and the patented Reverse By Braking (RBB) function decrease cycle times and extend component lifespan.

To support robust performance in the most demanding applications, the unique Volvo Torque Parallel (TP) linkage delivers high breakout torque and ultimate parallel movement throughout the entire lifting range. A wide selection of purpose-built buckets and attachments further enhances the versatility of these powerful machines.

Exceptional operator comfort

Beyond their sleek modern design, the revamped cabs set new benchmarks for comfort and functionality. The introduction of its acclaimed Volvo Co-Pilot, which can display up to four widgets on screen at a time, offers intuitive control over key functions, such as media, camera settings, climate control and machine status. Alongside the dynamic instrument cluster, which is ideally positioned in front of the steering wheel, these features keep operators informed and focused on the task at hand.

Already regarded as the most comfortable and quietest wheel loader cab, enhancements include improved storage options, new armrests, cupholders, USB chargers and a variety of seating choices, including premium seats with heating and cooling functionality. The optional Comfort Drive Control (CDC) system allows operators to steer using a single, ergonomic level, reducing fatigue over long shifts and promoting productivity.

Ease of service

The updated Volvo wheel loaders are designed for durability and straightforward servicing to maximize uptime. The tilting cab to either a 30° or 60° angle (or 70° for the larger models) allows easy access, while a work light is conveniently located under the grille to make refueling safer. Brake wear indicators, located on the wheels, provide easy brake condition checks, and a new service platform and harness anchor points outside the cab provide safe and easy access for routine maintenance and cleaning.

Safety inside and out

Excellent in-cab visibility is enhanced with new optional safety features such as Volvo Smart View, which provides a 360° view of the machine’s surroundings via the Volvo Co-Pilot, and the updated Collision Mitigation System, which detects and alerts operators to obstacles when reversing from speeds as low as 0.5kmph. Orange handrails and steps ensure safe access, automatic door opening adds convenience and improves safety, enhanced lighting improves visibility and a flashing beacon within the grille provides clear indication of reversing for bystanders.

Innovative digital solutions

Customers can get even more out of their machines by pairing with digital solutions like Load Assist with On-Board weighing for real-time load data, Operator Coaching and Tire Pressure Monitoring System. The new Load Ticket solution is available to streamline invoicing for wheel loader operators by digitalizing the flow from machine to the office, while Site Operations helps manage mixed-fleet job sites. What is more, Volvo’s CareTrack telematics system offers 24/7 monitoring to reduce repair costs and maximize uptime.

The new generation wheel loaders will be gradually introduced across select markets globally during 2025.
