Indonesian quarry company PT Cipta Suddew Mandiri is using a EC200D excavator from Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) to improve fuel efficiency and increase production on a large-scale sandstone quarry in Gunung Kembang, in South Sumatra, Indonesia.

“We selected the Volvo EC200D because we needed a machine that could decrease our fuel consumption and boost production while being easy to manoeuvre and agile,” said Edo Julian, director at PT Cipta Suddew Mandiri.

Onsite since October 2018, at the Gunung Kembang quarry, the excavator works eight hours daily, seven days per week removing huge amounts of stones from a nearby river-bed and loading it to a stone crusher for processing. This demanding work requires construction equipment that can withstand heavy and constant use.

The EC200D is a reliable performer that offers excellent fuel economy in general construction applications such as road construction, building, landscaping and utility work. It features a 5.7 m boom, 2.9 m arm and 0.8 m3 bucket, while maximum breakout force is 116 kN.

A perfect balance of power and fuel economy comes from the machine’s Tier 3 Volvo D5E engine, which delivers 123 kW of power at 2,000 rpm. Operators will feel right at home in the cab too, as it features the ergonomic design, comfort and visibility that are synonymous with Volvo machines.

Since the quarry site in Gunung Kembang is close to a local highway, PT Cipta Suddew Mandiri needed construction equipment that would be safe around the public.

“The EC200D is performing very well, and has increased our productivity by a great amount,” Julian said. “Our operators love it due to the EC200D being such a manoeuvrable machine with such an easy to control system.”

Established in 2016, PT Cipta Suddew Mandiri is headquartered in Gunung Kembang, South Sumatra and provides general construction services in quarrying in Gunung Kembang Village, South Sumatra. The company purchased its EC200D from PT Indotruck Utama, one of Volvo CE’s distribution partners in Indonesia.

“Our fuel consumption is noticeably down since using the EC200D, which is also reducing our overall operating costs and making our production much more effective,” Julian said. “I would recommend this world class EC200D excavator to anyone.”
