Volvo CE enables sustainable recycling growth in South Africa

Crush It Green is turning Gauteng’s waste challenge into a business opportunity—using machines from Volvo Construction Equipment to power circular economy success and operational efficiency.

In Gauteng, South Africa, Crush It Green is redefining how construction and mining waste is handled-transforming demolition debris, mine dumps, and legacy stockpiles into high-value recycled aggregates. Specializing in large-scale recycling at the heart of South Africa's urban expansion, the company is diverting significant tonnages of material from landfill, fueling both business growth and environmental stewardship.

At the core of this operation is a dedicated Volvo fleet: EC220E and EC300E excavators, and L120H wheel loader—selected for their hydraulic precision, robust performance, and operator comfort. Site Manager Trevor Rodwell highlights the clear impact: "We've tried other machines before, but since switching to Volvo Construction Equipment through Babcock, the difference has been clear. Our operators love them, the machines are powerful and smooth, and we've seen a noticeable reduction in diesel consumption—which adds up fast across a fleet."

Responsive support maximizes uptime

Maximizing productivity and minimizing downtime is essential for Crush It Green's work. Here, the partnership with Volvo and local dealer Babcock proves equally pivotal.

"Babcock's after-sales support is critical. When I phone with a breakdown, there's no long delay- I get a call back, a technician is dispatched, and parts arrive if needed," says Rodwell.

Setting new standards

"Our partnership with Crush It Green demonstrates how the right machines, supported by responsive service, can deliver strong commercial performance while advancing environmental outcomes. Helping customers reduce fuel consumption, improve reliability and keep operations running smoothly is what success looks like for us," says Lance Mannix, Head of Sales Equipment at Babcock.

As Crush It Green expands its footprint and scales up recycling projects, sustainable performance remains central to its vision. Volvo equipment and seamless support enable the company to set new standards for circularity in the construction sector-building a more resource-efficient future for Gauteng and beyond.
