A new level in productivity

The already outstanding productivity of the previous generation is taken to new heights in the SD120 thanks to the powerful 99kW D5 engine, matched hydraulics and new optional traction enhancement, delivering optimum performance in challenging ground conditions. Optional R1 tyres further enhance performance when working in clay environments.

Forces and amplitudes

Achieve the desired compaction density, in different soil conditions, in fewer passes thanks to the high centrifugal forces of the SD120. With dual amplitudes 1.9/1 operators can adapt to different soil conditions for the right level of force according to desired layer thickness and the stage of compaction.

Compaction gauge and Compaction assist

With a basic compaction gauge as an option, operators can easily see if the correct compaction is achieved compared to the target on the digital colour display. The new optional digital compaction gauge is integrated into the display providing instant compaction status compared to target.  To further enhance productivity, quality and accuracy, the new Compaction assist as an option helps optimize compaction and achieve the preset compaction by evenly compacting the entire working area and avoid unnecessary fuel consumption. Downloadable reports on compaction quality and results also minimise the need for compaction testing.

Padfoot drum

In addition to the existing bolt-on padfoot, which is still available and contributes to the overall versatility of the SD120, customers can now also choose a new padfoot drum. The padfoot drum features pads welded to the drum, enabling better traction and making it the perfect choice for excellent gradeability and compaction results when working in clay environments.

8% improvement in fuel economy

Benefit from up to 8% better fuel economy compared to the previous generation thanks to the powerful 99kW Volvo D5 engine, which combines with a new hydraulic pump designed to optimize flow and speed. This is complemented by a host of further fuel economy boosting

Here, the image schematically represents the hydraulic circuit of an SD120 soil compactor.

New efficient hydraulic system

The proven new generation hydraulic system reduces losses and is ideally matched to the Volvo D5 engine helping to deliver more performance and less fuel consumption.

Built for hard work

The SD120 is a true heavy-duty compactor and a long-lasting partner for your business, and with Volvo axles (with no spin differential), gearbox and engine, Volvo quality runs throughout the machine. No matter the application this is a compactor designed to excel across a wide range of segments thanks to the proven Volvo D5 engine and robust machine design. The cooler is now mounted separately from the engine, improving durability and providing better vibration isolation. With engine cooling in ambient temperatures up to 50°C, the machine can keep working in hot environments without any drop in performance.

Easy to service

Keep uptime to a maximum thanks to the excellent serviceability of the SD120. Features such as best-in-class access to essential maintenance points, grouped filters and other optimized service point locations boost machine availability and protect your return on investment.   A new optional tow valve allows brake release in the event of an unplanned breakdown, allowing the vehicle to be towed to a safe location without the need for an external device to release the brakes.

Scraper options

A new optional inside scraper helps maintain drum surface cleanliness by scraping debris and preventing soil build up on the outside scraper. Alternatively, choose the modular scraper which adjusts between blade and teeth for smooth or padfoot drums; this removes the need to swap scrapers when changing drum types – saving time and boosting efficiency.
