Volvo Ocean Race 2014 - 2015

Volvo Construction Equipment at the Ocean Race stopovers: A host of events and adventures await customers and all!

On 4th October, the 2014-2015 Volvo Ocean Race will set sail from Alicante, Spain. The Race Village opens on 2nd October, bringing visitors, sailing crews and Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) customers together in preparation for this year’s thrilling nine month challenge. Alicante is the first stopover on the round-the-world race, and Volvo CE is proud to host a series of activities at the site both for Volvo customers and the general public.

An exciting experience for Volvo Customers
From the Alicante Race Village, Volvo customers have the opportunity to be taken to an external site, 30 minutes away from the port, for an exciting Volvo experience – they will have the chance to watch the famous Volvo Construction Equipment Machine Show and test-drive the equipment. Customers can also watch the in-port races from on-board hospitality boats and participate in seminars about Volvo CE’s involvement with the World Wildlife Fund and the Construction Climate Challenge. All of these events must be arranged in advance with a local Volvo dealer.

Thrills for one and all
From the dock, the general public will be able to witness the incredible sailing boats and enjoy the excitement of the in-port races. They can also explore the Race Village, including the Volvo Pavilion. Two exciting Volvo CE products will be present at the Volvo Pavilion in each stopover port: the unique, show-modified electric ECR 25D excavator and the sophisticated Excavator Simulator, both custom-made just for this event.

Anyone aged 15 and above can now experience what it is like to operate a real construction machine.  By simply taking a picture on the spot, visitors can take part in both the on-site and online challenge contests to win prizes.

Let us entertain you
If you prefer to relax and be entertained, the Alicante stopover promises a variety of free shows and events. Catch the Operators Club Final on 3rd October where finalists from 13 clubs across Europe battle for the championship, skillfully controlling their construction machinery to perform demanding tasks. Members of the Volvo Ocean Race sailing teams will also have the opportunity to try their hand at operating these machines – despite their lack of experience! With concerts by Madrid’s pop rock star Leiva – as well as appearances from Vetusta Morla, Miss Caffeina, Fangoria and more – there is never a dull moment at the Race Village.

For those who are not able to be at the Race Village in person, Volvo CE has created a series of online challenges that will be released at the start of every leg of the ocean race. Visit the campaign site portal to find these challenge videos. Visitors might just find their pictures and videos at the race village there too.
