1844 – J & C.G. Bolinder

Twelve years after Johan Munktell's entrance on the Swedish business arena, the entrepreneurial brothers Jean and Carl Gerhard Bolinder founded Kungsholmens Gjuteri & Maskin Verkstad in Stockholm, Sweden.

The main focus was on machine- and foundry work. Samuel Owen had previously closed down his engineering business in Stockholm and the Bolinder brothers took over some of his machinery, and customers one would assume.

The company grew rapidly and, as time went on, became a major manufacturer of saw frames and steam engines. Later on the company was an important world player in crude oil engine manufacturing.

Some 30 years later the company was restructured under the more flattering name J. & C.G. Bolinder Mekaniska Verkstads AB.
