Volvo EW60E compact wheeled excavator makes North American debut at CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2017

The latest and smallest addition to the Volvo wheeled excavator lineup boasts impressive breakout force in an incredibly nimble, fuel-efficient and versatile package.

Volvo EW60E Compact Wheeled Excavator

The Volvo EW60E compact wheeled excavator is a highly capable machine that is well-suited to a variety of applications. Its design provides outstanding traction, swing force, breakout force and tear-out force in a compact size class that allows for convenient road travel and excellent maneuverability in confined spaces.

“The EW60E is a great fit for municipalities or contractors who commonly do ditch work alongside the road, landscaping, or work in congested urban settings or in large subdivisions that require frequent roading from site to site,” said John Comrie, product manager at Volvo Construction Equipment. “With the EW60E, you get many of the capabilities of a comparable tracked machine, but with the added benefit of being able to travel without the need for a truck and trailer.”

Equipped with a powerful Volvo Tier 4 Final engine and adjustable hydraulic flow, the EW60E features a well-balanced driveline for excellent performance and fuel efficiency. The EW60E has 12 percent more horsepower than prior series models while delivering a 10 percent improvement in fuel efficiency due to a smaller displacement engine with turbo charger.

The standard offset boom allows the operator to adjust to applications that require working in confined areas. The offset boom also provides the operator with an excellent view to the bucket, which improves accuracy when working in areas with congested utilities. The operator can also adjust the speed of the offset boom through the control panel, allowing for very precise movements.

Four-wheel drive and a top speed of 18.6 mph guarantee excellent mobility and speed on and off road. The front axle can also be hydraulically locked for additional stability on uneven terrain. The dozer blade at the rear of the machine provides additional stability.

Comfort and convenience
The Volvo EW60E wheeled mini excavator features the latest generation Volvo cab with 10 percent more space than prior compact versions, including more room behind the seat. Impressive storage space includes a phone tray, two power sockets, a cup holder and three other large storage areas.

A thinner pillar, larger glazed area and enlarged wiper blade all serve to improve visibility. The optional rearview camera is viewable through a 7-inch color LCD display — eliminating blind spots, even in confined spaces.

For easy, intuitive operation, the keypad groups all controls on the right-hand side, and the LCD screen displays all machine information for access to functions through its easy-to-use menus. The hot keys allow the operator to directly access pre-set functions for added convenience. The improved proportional joystick provides better grip and increases ease of control.

Easy and efficient
The EW60E is equipped with a number of features designed for ease of service. Ground-level service access and convenient greasing points reduce service time and maintenance costs. Service intervals can easily be monitored via the in-cab screen, which displays maintenance reminders.

The new Volvo engine and improved hydraulics work together to offer superior fuel efficiency without sacrificing power. With the standard auto-idle feature — a unique offering from Volvo — the engine stops automatically after a preselected idle time, helping to dramatically lower fuel costs and lower total machine hours for increased resale value.

The EW60E mini wheeled excavator comes standard with Volvo CareTrack® telematics and Volvo MATRIS (Machine Tracking Information System) software. Together, the technologies allow the fleet manager to remotely monitor a wide range of machine diagnostics in real time, as well as machine utilization data over longer periods of time, providing the opportunity to improve worksite profitability through operator training and predictive maintenance.

Attachments for any application
The EW60E can be equipped with a wide range of durable mini excavator attachments that are suitable for anything from utilities and building to agriculture, landscaping and forestry. These attachments can be easily changed using either a mechanical or hydraulic quick coupler. Bucket options include everything from general-purpose buckets to thumb buckets and specialized ditching buckets. The EW60E is also compatible with Volvo durable hydraulic breakers.
