Is the sentiment of Brian Henderson, Plant and Environmental Manager for Kirkcaldy based Thomas Menzies Builders Ltd as the company take their first Volvo EC55C compact excavator from recently appointed utility dealer for Central and Southern Scotland, Rockbreakers (UK) Ltd.
Established as far back as 1937, Thomas Menzies Builders Ltd provides a full range of civil engineering services from its Kirkcaldy base serving Fife, Edinburgh, Dundee, Perth and East Central Scotland. The company has had a long standing relationship with Rockbreakers (UK) Ltd who has supplied hydraulic hammers and other ancilliary attachments for some time. “When we learnt that Rockbreakers had taken on the franchise for Volvo utility equipment and knowing their track record for excellent support, we had that added confidence when we decided to purchase a new 5.5. tonne excavator to our fleet,” explains Brian Henderson. “We were also pretty impressed with the qualities of the Volvo machine having cross hired the EC55C on several occasions. With our first encounter with the EC55C we didn’t take much convincing and knew straight away it was the right machine for us. Besides the general build quality, the cab comfort is second to none and certainly appreciated by our operators,” he continues.
Powered by a proven, direct injection Volvo diesel engine developing 35.1kw, the EC55C offers high performance, leading fuel efficiency and low emissions/noise. High performance tractive forces make levelling and backfilling quick and efficient work. The machine’s digging geometry is equally impressive with a forward reach of 6.2m, a maximum digging depth of 4.0m and a generous load over height of 4.3m. With these credentials, the EC55C can easily load six and eight wheeled tippers with comparative ease. The machine features Volvo’s industry-leading comfortable cab for less fatigue and more production. The ergonomically-designed cab offers greater leg and foot room, making it one of the most spacious in its category.
The new EC55C sold to Thomas Menzies is one of the first Volvo compact excavators to be retailed by recently appointed Volvo utility dealer Rockbreakers (UK) Ltd. The company based just of the M9 at Bomains Industrial Estate, Bo’ness was appointed in August last year and is responsible for the sales and after-market support for the full range of Volvo utility equipment covering Fife, Argyll, the Central Belt and the whole of the Borders in Southern Scotland. This includes compact excavators from 1.5 to 8.8 tonnes; compact wheeled loaders up to 1.0m³ capacity and tandem rollers.
Volvo Construction Equipment markets wheeled loaders, articulated haulers, hydraulic excavators, Volvo utility equipment and Volvo road equipment products in Great Britain. There are eight strategically placed customer support centres and a network of utility equipment dealers to ensure high quality customer support is maintained throughout the country.
