Groundworks contractors Cinwood Ltd of Corsham, Wiltshire has broken with tradition and purchased two new fourteen tonne Volvo EC140Es for its plant fleet.
Opting for the two new machines from the Volvo stable came following a review of the market, the machine specifications and a competitive package on offer according to Cinwood’s Matt Storie. “We looked carefully at the fourteen tonne market but were particularly drawn to the specifications of the Volvo machine and in particular its lifting capacity,” says Matt. “In addition, Volvo offered us a very competitive package so all in all, we decided to opt for the EC140Es and so far we’ve been quite impressed with the performance, the smoothness of operation and our operators’ acceptance of the new machines,” he continues.
The EC140E is powered by Volvo Stage IV compliant 4 cylinder engines developing 121 hp. The machine’s ‘Integrated work mode control’ provides high efficiency, rapid dig cycles coupled to significantly low fuel consumption. This advanced mode control system ensures the maximum possible hydraulic horsepower available is delivered at a constant engine speed under varying load conditions. In addition, boom and arm geometry provide highly competitive digging forces and lifting capacities, which makes for faster work cycles. For example the maximum reach with the standard 3.0m dipper arm is 8.85 metres whilst the maximum dig depth is a generous 6.0 metres, but in particular the lifting capacity at full reach across carriage equals 1.9 tonnes which
impressed Matt Storie when comparing machine specifications. Hose rupture valves are fitted as standard to the boom and dipper cylinders as are quick fit hydraulics and a hammer/shear service.
