Powered by a premium D4 Volvo engine, the EC170D provides the ultimate combination of high performance and low fuel consumption. Volvo’s unique ECO mode increases fuel efficiency by reducing engine rpm without any loss of performance. The Volvo hydraulic system is perfectly matched to the engine and components for guaranteed high digging force, fast response and smooth operation at all times.
The optimized boom, arm and linkage geometry, together with optimal engine power and hydraulic pressure, provides large lifting capacities and fast cycle times in tough applications. The reinforced boom and arm are built from high tensile steel for maximum strength and reliability, and wear strips welded to the underside of the arm give added protection in severe conditions. The strong, durable superstructure is built to absorb external forces, protecting internal components and preventing cracking or torsional distortion. A high tensile steel X-frame increases durability in the most demanding applications.
With an ideal transport configuration and a range of customizable features, the EC170D has been engineered for easy transportation. It is fully compliant with all national on-road weight and size regulations, and five track shoe width options allow the excavator to be customized to meet specific on-road width restrictions. Two different undercarriage sizes – a standard option or a longer, wider body – offer maximum stability when lifting heavy loads or working in difficult terrain.
The EC170D has been built with the operator in focus, and Volvo has created a working environment that is optimized for productivity. Slim cab pillars and large expanses of glass allow for superior visibility, and an adjustable seat and ergonomically placed controls increase operator comfort. The 7-inch colour LCD monitor (I-ECU) has an anti-glare, tiltable screen, displaying machine status information including fuel consumption data and service interval alerts.
The operator can adjust the cab temperature via the monitor, and the industry-leading air circulation and defrosting system quickly heats or cools using 14 well-spaced vents for increased comfort.
Every machine requires service and maintenance, and the EC170D ensures this is quick and easy to perform. Equipped with CareTrack, Volvo’s state-of-the-art telematics system, this machine guarantees access to a wide range of monitoring information designed to save time and money. The system allows for proactive management of service and maintenance schedules, optimizing machine and operator performance and reducing fuel costs. To further enhance serviceability, the I-ECU monitor features a built-in service interval display for easy monitoring of key statistics and information.
The EC170D ensures maintenance checks can be performed with ease – grouped filters in the pump compartment are quick and easy to access from ground level via one door, and heavy-duty punched anti-slip plates in the main service areas provide safe access in even wet and icy conditions.
For maximum productivity and profitability, Volvo’s comprehensive range of attachments is designed to work in harmony with Volvo machines. The EC170D can be equipped with a selection of high quality buckets built to perform in a variety of applications, including the toughest of materials.
The attachment management system allows for storage of up to 20 different attachment settings and enables hydraulic flow to be adjusted according to requirements, allowing the operator to quickly change attachments without the need for manual set up. When working in only one application, Volvo’s direct fit attachments provide the best performance and shortest tip radius for high breakout forces.
To ensure the EC170D delivers in every application, it may be fitted with a general purpose bucket, perfect for digging and re-handling soft to medium material, or a heavy-duty bucket, which excels at digging in dense material such as clay and gravel.
