Volvo Construction Equipment brought together members of the German press to offer them an opportunity to look behind the scene and to present the new EC250E crawler excavator.
On April 8 and 9, Volvo CE Germany invited 20 journalists from the German trade press to visit its production facility in Konz. One of the strategic aims for Germany in 2014 is increasing the market share of compact machines and excavators. What better way for the company to start than to acquaint the media with one of its two German production sites with the slogan ‘Made in Germany’. The event focused on employees and up-to-date production and six workshops were established. Journalists were shown distribution structures for the EMEA sales region and given demonstrations of prestigious research and development projects and well as a tour of the service and training centre and the factory.
On the topic of teamwork, a demonstration on the wheel loader line, how employees work independently and collectively towards strategic corporate goals. A presentation in the audit hall on the subject of productivity demonstrated how we integrate our certificated management system “Volvo Production System” is integrated with everything Volvo does before, during and after production, to guarantee first-rate quality of our premium product.
In the prototype center, journalists were able to discover future projects for intelligent machines (for example THOR – Terraforming Heavy Outdoor Robot) and fuel-efficient machines such as ERMA (research and development of energy efficient concepts and technologies for mobile working machines), as well as how the time to market process is implemented (Time to Market). Various public research projects with universities were presented as well as assistance systems such as the Bird’s Eye View – all round view – of wheeled excavators, which will soon be available to Volvo customers.
As always, the focus was on the company’s employees, as was the personnel department’s workshop. Just a few weeks ago, Volvo Construction Equipment was nominated industry winner by the German news magazine “Focus” as the “Top National Employer of 2014”. This award resulted from a large-scale independent survey via the Internet platforms Xing and Kununu, asking employees about their satisfaction levels in relation to their employer. Volvo CE was able to show everything it does for and with its employees, including the superb opportunities available in Konz.
The service and training centre and its product training and technical consultation facilities were also exhibited. The final highlight was the presentation of the new EC250E crawler excavator. From June 2014, the latest E model will roll off the assembly line at the Konz factory, and the visiting journalists were first to experience the crawler excavator at close quarters.
„The journalists were absolutely positive and very interested in all aspects of the event,”“ said Christian Krauskopf, Managing Director of Volvo CE Germany. “„This event gave us a perfect opportunity to show the development of the Konz site and to emphasize our commitment to our production facililty ‘„Made in Germany’“.
Matthias Keller, Managing Director of Volvo CE in Konz, commented: “This press event gave us the opportunity to show trade journalists what ‘Made in Konz’ means. Our employees are proud of Konz as a development and production location, dedicated to the Volvo core values of quality, safety and environmental compatibility.”
