Volvo Construction Equipment has received three prestigious awards so far this year – and it’s only March.
It seems that three is the lucky number for Volvo Construction Equipment in 2011after it was awarded three prestigious awards in three months.
Volvo’s L220G wheel loader beat thousands of international products to win a ‘red dot product design award 2011’ – the most globally-recognized mark for industrial design quality. Volvo’s EC210C excavator was also awarded ‘Machinery of the year 2011’ at the Baublatt Österreich awards in Austria. And at the same ceremony, Volvo Germany was presented with the ‘Golden Shovel’ for outstanding contributions to apprenticeship training.
The red dot product design awards 2011 honors outstanding industrial design and celebrates the design team behind the concept. Volvo’s L220G wheel loader wowed a panel of design experts in Essen, Germany, to win the red dot award – a seal of high design quality from the world’s largest and most distinguished design competition.
Only the very best products, from 15 categories, managed to convince the jury – and this year 4,433 products were entered by designers and companies from 60 countries worldwide. The Volvo L220G was entered into the vehicle category.
The L220G wheel loader is part of Volvo’s new G-series range and stood out from the crowd because of its fuel efficient and productive design, with 20% increased lifting force and stronger hydraulics.
Stina Nilimaa Wickström, Design Director at Volvo Construction Equipment, heads the Volvo product design team. “We are thrilled to have won such a prestigious award,” says Stina. “The award is a credit to our hard working and creative team at Volvo and it shows that we are delivering world class machine designs. We are proud to continue the Volvo tradition of being innovative leaders in the construction design arena.”
Volvo will receive its award at Essen’s opera house, the Aalto Theater, on 4 July.
While at the Baublatt Österreich awards in Austria in February, Volvo was presented with two awards by the Austrian trade publication Baublatt Österreich after it impressed an independent panel of judges.
Volvo’s EC210C hydraulic excavator won ‘Machinery of the Year 2011’ for its construction of a ski jump in Hinzenbach, Austria. The panel thought the EC210C “performed brilliantly with exceptional stability and durability while transporting heavy steel mesh over a steep 35 degree slope.” The EC210C crawler excavator has the option of a hydraulically elevating cab, which significantly increases the operator’s visibility when sorting, loading or compacting.
Volvo Baumaschinen Österreich (VBÖ), Volvo’s regional headquarters in Germany, also won the ‘Golden Shovel 2011’ award for outstanding contributions to apprenticeship training.
Managing Director of Volvo Baumaschinen Österreich, Thomas Schmitz, accepted the award and said: “It is an honour for me to accept this award on behalf of a great team of people who meet their daily challenges with passion. This award recognizes both the advantages of an excellent product and the performance of a committed team, which is reflected in our efforts to satisfy our customers and provide reliable, quality machines.”
