Prestige Hire Ltd of Olton, Solihull, West Midlands has purchased a package of Volvo compact excavators for its growing self-drive hire fleet from Volvo CE’s utility dealer SM Plant Ltd along with a new fourteen tonne EC140D for its training division located opposite the NEC.
Since establishing his company back in 2001, Proprietor and Managing Director John Smith has developed Prestige Hire Ltd into a major independent plant and tool hire business serving the whole of the West Midlands. “We have built the business up providing a sound and reliable service to our clients hiring quality brand products,” says Mr Smith. “The Volvo product in our opinion mirrors the same quality we wish to portray to our customer base and the offer on the table from SM Plant complete with a competitive finance package and guaranteed residual values was too good to overlook,” he continues.
The package includes eight canopy version Volvo EC15Cs (one and a half tonnes) and six larger Volvo EC27Cs with cabs, all of which have been supplied with a full set of buckets and e-touch immobiliser systems from Volvo CE’s utility equipment dealer in the Midlands – SM Plant Ltd. Commenting on Prestige Hire’s purchase, SM Plant’s Managing Director Simon Milligan said; “We are absolutely delighted that Prestige Hire Ltd has selected the Volvo product for their self-drive hire needs and John and his team can be assured that we will be there along with Volvo to continue to support them going forward.”
Besides Prestige Hire’s tool and plant hire business, the company has, within the last three years invested significant time and resources in developing a separate division operating as ‘TOTAL TRAINING’. “For quite some time we had repeated requests from our customers to provide all manner of training for their operatives whether it was operator training on plant, theoretical training, manual handling – in fact anything related to the construction industry,” explains John Smith. And recognizing there was a niche in the market especially in the West Midlands environs the company set about obtaining the relevant accreditations to provide a comprehensive set of training skills to the local construction industry. To assist in this important development of the company Ian Peacock was appointed as associate director to head up the training division which can now offer CPCS training on virtually all items of mobile plant along with SQA’s and City & Guilds accreditation to deliver NVQ’s. The company has recently been appointed as National training provider for a major national civil engineering company and is working with local government agencies in helping unemployed people with the ‘up-skills’ necessary to move into industry related apprenticeships.
And a part of the investment in Total Training, Prestige Hire has included the purchase of a Volvo EC140D fourteen tonne excavator. “This is the largest machine we’ve purchased so far but recognize that this size of machine is common place on the building or construction site so it made sense to opt for the fourteen tonner to help deliver the relevant operator training we provide and again the deal on the table from Volvo was very competitive,” says John Smith. The machine will be based at Total Training’s dedicated training facility located close to the NEC just off the busy M42 motorway.
SM Plant Ltd is the dealer for Volvo utility equipment covering the whole of the Midlands, Berkshire and Oxfordshire and is headquartered in Rugby, Warwickshire.
Volvo Construction Equipment Division markets wheeled loaders, articulated haulers, hydraulic excavators, graders, Volvo utility and road machinery products in the U.K. There are eight strategically placed customer support centres and a network of utility compact equipment dealers to ensure high quality customer support is maintained throughout Great Britain.
